Arend was the son of Bartele Tjalkes Bouma, baker, and Berbertje Durks van der Werff. Arend was born in Grouw on 13 Feb 1866 and died in St. Annaparochie on 23 May 1957. He married Trijntje Jelles de Groot in Het Bildt on 25 October 1894. Trijntje was born in St. Annaparochie on 17 Aug 1872 and died in Stiens on 16 September 1968, daughter of Jelle de Groot, gardener and Trijntje van Marssum.
